Traditional hemp weaving in Kaida, Nagano, Japan (Vol. 1)

This is a hemp weaving workshop in Kaida, Kiso Town, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Members call their workshop "Nono ori's Family". There are ten traditional style weaving machines and lots of instruments spinning yarn.

This workshop started twelve years ago. Members gather on the Wednesday almost every week. They make fabrics from gathering Ramie and scraping husk.
Firstly, they soak stems to make them removing easily. Then, they put husk they removed on a board and scrape. The husk will be white and the fiber will be seen clearly when this work finish.

They hug these fibers to dry. They connect dried fibers and spin yarn in future.
